Hi! My name is Murphy Katelyn Bennett. Before you ask I will answer the most common question I get, YES Murphy is my first name!!! It was my mother’s maiden name, and since she had no brothers to continue with it, she decided to give it to me, and I love it. I am from a small town called Tamaqua, PA. It is about forty minutes shy of the Allentown area. I live with my Mom, Dad, and younger brother, Spencer. We have one dog and her name is ZuZu.
Like I said, Tamaqua is just shy of Allentown, so it is about four hours from IUP. I did not want to go that far from home for college, but I ended up at IUP because it is the only school in Pennsylvania that holds a prestigious program for my major. I am majoring in Deaf Education. It is the best decision I have made and I love it here.
That is a little bit of background information on me, now for the fun stuff. I love the color pink, and I believe anything looks better with glitter on it! That could be because I was a cheerleader since sixth grade, but I think it just has a lot to do with my personality. I love to make people happy and help them out. I love to laugh and have a good time with my friends. Along with cheerleading in high school, I played softball. I was going to try out for the team here at IUP but missed tryouts and instead decided to play Rugby. Again, another amazing decision. I fell in love with the sport and have met the most amazing set of girls. As a Deaf Education major here at IUP, I was given the opportunity to join a club on campus called Sign In. It is a group of students who love signing and choose to perform songs in sign. This year I have the honor of being Co-President of that club. In the little free time that I have I love to read. My favorite author is Jodi Picoult. I most recently read her book “Handle With Care” and would recommend it to anyone! A few more fun facts about me are that I love Dopey and my favorite animal is the manatee.
